Hamagenim Forest (also know as the Defenders Forest) is found near Tel Gezer and Latrun. The forest was planted in memory of soldiers that have fallen in the various battles and wars. Dozens of memorial sites and memorial signs for soldiers killed in the Israeli systems are scattered throughout the forest, as well as individual memorial sites. The forest is large and had plenty of places to explore. Picnic benches are a plently and one can easily find a nice shady area to eat. Various bicycle routes exist in this forest. One special feature very close to this forest is a beautiful (albeit small) spring named Varda spring, which has clear crisp water especially in the months after rainfall.
