Mei Kedem

Mei Kedem, found near to Caesaria, is an ancient underground tunnel built by the Romans about 2,000 years ago. Visitors can walk through the tunnel which is filled with water that reaches a height of 40-70cm. This little adventure involves walking in the dark with torches to light your way, an activity which was exhilirating for my kids. The walk takes about 25 minutes and can be done a few times by returning to the beginning and starting again! There is also a 10 minute video explaining the history of the tunnel and how it was used to carry water to meet the needs of the growing population of Caesaria during the Roman and Byzantine periods. Dont forget a change of clothing especially for the kids! Bring your own torches or buy there.
